Metro Affordability Study

While Gregor and the gang push more concrete and glass towers as the panacea for affordable housing - the data paints a different picture.

Look at the numbers for average purchase price (which of course ultimately dictates rental price) of concrete vs woodframe.. Concrete towers are certainly popular with investors and developers, but concrete construction is one of the worst greenhouse polluters and the construction of towers contributes to the kind of "land-lift" that in turn raises land prices and taxes around it, that in turn decrease affordable housing options — not to mention concrete costs on average 15-20% more for a smaller unit!

Amazingly, this data's been published by the UDI, an industry group for the development industry..
